Introduction
As men grow older, especially after the age of 50, prostate-related issues become more common. Through my naturopathy practice, I’ve seen how prostate and bladder problems often go unnoticed until they start affecting daily life. What many don’t realize is that if left unchecked, they can lead to other complications like arthritis, kidney disorders, or even uremia.
Let’s understand this better and explore gentle, natural solutions that have worked for hundreds of my clients.
What is the Prostate Gland?
The Prostate gland is a male gland, comparable in shape and size to a large chestnut. It is reddish brown in appearance. It measures approximately 3.8 cms. in width and about 2.5 cms in length and weighs about 25 gms. It is situated at the base of the urinary bladder and around the beginning of urethra, the tube for the passage of urine. The gland plays an important role in normal sexual life and its function is to recreate a fluid which is added to semen during sexual intercourse.
There are different types of Prostate disorders. Of these the most important are prostatitis or burning sensation in the Prostate gland and hypertrophy or enlargement of the Prostate gland. Prostatitis may be acute or chronic. Enlargement of the prostate gland is the most common complaint affecting the gland. This occurs mostly in men of middle and advanced age.
Common Prostate Disorders
There are different types of prostate disorders, the most common being:
- Prostatitis: A burning sensation or inflammation in the prostate gland, which may be acute or chronic.
- Prostatic Hypertrophy: Enlargement of the prostate gland, a frequent complaint among aging men.
What are the Common Symptoms?
There are two early signs:
- Difficulty or delay in urinating
- Needing to urinate frequently at night
Other signs may include:
- Dull aching pain in the lower back, hips, or legs
- Fatigue, and a general sense of low energy
- Mental fog or emotional disturbances—yes, even the mind is affected when the body is imbalanced
If these sound familiar, don’t ignore them. Early care can prevent bigger problems later.
What is the Naturopathy Treatment of Prostate Disorders?
A gentle and effective naturopathic routine to support prostate health, based on cleansing, nourishing foods, yoga, and herbs.
Short Fasting and Hip Bath
Start with a short fast of 2–3 days, taking only water or lemon water. This helps rest the digestive system and eliminate toxins. A daily enema can further support bowel clearance.
Alternate hip baths (hot and cold) are very effective in reducing pain and congestion in the pelvic area. I usually recommend 10 minutes of hot followed by 3 minutes of cold.
Diet
After fasting, shift to an all-fruit diet for 3 days then gradually shift on normal diet. You can follow this diet plan:
Three-Day Fruit Diet: Adopt an all-fruit diet including apples, pears, oranges, grapefruit, grapes, sweet lime, mangoes, melons, and other juicy fruits. This helps detoxify the body and reduce excess fat.
Seven-Day Transition Diet: Follow with a diet comprising two meals of fruits and one meal of cooked vegetables daily. The vegetable meal should be consumed in the evening and can include all types of cooked vegetables.
What food is best in prostate problem?
Simple food changes also make a big difference. I usually suggest adding more tomatoes, pumpkin seeds, flaxseeds, and green leafy vegetables. These are rich in antioxidants and zinc, both of which are beneficial for the prostate. Cooked foods with minimal oil and spices help reduce inflammation too.
The foods to avoid for prostate problems
From a naturopathic view, diet is key. I recommend avoiding:
- Stimulants like tea, coffee, tobacco, and alcohol
- Heavy starches, sweets, spicy and fried foods
- Excess salt, meat, and processed cheese
(These create heat and congestion in the body, aggravating prostate symptoms).
Yoga for Prostate Health
Yoga is a beautiful support tool. Gentle postures help increase blood flow to the pelvic region and ease muscular tension.
Some poses I guide my clients to practice:
- Baddha Konasana (Butterfly Pose)
- Malasana (Garland Pose)
- Viparita Karani (Legs-up-the-wall Pose)
(Just 15–20 minutes a day can create a visible difference).
Ayurveda Herbs Prostate Health
Ayurvedic herbs like Gokshura, Varuna, and Shatavari are traditionally used to strengthen the urinary tract and reduce gland enlargement. I often recommend clients take them in powdered or decoction form under guidance, and many have noticed improvement in symptoms like frequent urination or discomfort.
- Gokshura – Supports urinary health and reduces inflammation
- Varuna – Known for shrinking prostate enlargement
- Shatavari – Strengthens the reproductive system
- Pumpkin Seeds – Are effective for prostate problems due to their high content of unsaturated fatty acids, essential for prostate health.
Final Thoughts
Prostate health can be restored gently—without surgery or strong medications—by addressing the root cause through food, herbs, and lifestyle. My goal is always to heal the body naturally, helping it returns to balance.
If you or a loved one is facing similar symptoms, I invite you to book a free consultation. Let’s heal the root, not just the symptom.
“Consistency is key. When these natural methods are practiced mindfully—along with clean eating and restful sleep—many men find lasting relief and even reversal of early prostate issues.”
FAQs
Q- What foods should I avoid maintaining a healthy prostate?
In my naturopathy experience, certain foods increase heat and inflammation in the body — which can make prostate symptoms worse. I usually recommend avoiding:
- Red meat and processed meats
- Fried and oily foods
- Too much dairy (especially cheese and cream)
- White sugar and sweets
- Spicy, salty, and packaged foods
- Caffeine (tea/coffee) and alcohol
These foods put stress on the system and disturb the hormonal balance.
Q- Can certain foods help reduce prostate enlargement symptoms?
Simple, natural foods work best. I suggest:
- Cooked tomatoes (they’re rich in lycopene)
- Pumpkin seeds and flax seeds (good for hormones)
- Green leafy vegetables
- Fruits like pomegranate, sweet lime, papaya
- Herbal teas instead of regular tea/coffee
These helps reduce swelling and support the body’s natural healing.
Q- Is coffee or tea harmful for the prostate?
Yes — I’ve seen that regular tea and coffee often increase urination, disturb sleep, and create acidity. I recommend switching to caffeine-free herbal teas like tulsi, chamomile, or jeera-ajwain tea.
Q- Does alcohol affect prostate health?
Definitely. Alcohol heats the body and irritates the bladder and prostate. Even small amounts can increase urinary issues. Best to avoid or stop completely for faster healing.
Q- Is it okay to consume milk and curd in prostate problems?
Heavy dairy like full-cream milk or processed cheese is best avoided. If someone wants to take milk, I suggest diluted cow’s milk or plant-based options like almond milk, and only during the day. Curd should be avoided, especially at night.
Q- What lifestyle changes help the prostate naturally?
Simple changes can bring great relief:
- Light, sattvic food
- Early dinners (before sunset)
- Daily Yoga and pranayama
- Hot and cold hip bath therapy
- Good sleep and less stress
These small habits can create a big difference in long-term wellness.
